Day 6
From Puerto Varas to Puelo: Forests, Hot Springs & Chilean Hospitality

After breakfast, set out on a scenic drive into the heart of Patagonia. The route to Puelo is a journey in itself—winding through lush forests, crossing rivers, and climbing into the wild folds of the Andes. In route, enjoy a brief stop at the Petrohué Falls, where emerald waters surge through volcanic rock formations—an ideal moment to stretch your legs, and take in the power and beauty of the landscape before continuing your adventure. Upon arrival in Puelo Valley, check in to Andes Lodge, your secluded home for the next three nights. Nestled within a private reserve and surrounded by ancient trees, the lodge is built in harmony with nature—wooden beams, roaring fireplaces, and wide windows that frame the wilderness just beyond. Early afternoon, head to Termas del Sol, a stunning series of thermal pools nestled in a native forest setting. Here, natural hot spring waters flow into handcrafted stone baths, each one offering a unique view of the misty woods and surrounding peaks. A short forest walk reveals ancient trees, hanging moss, and the kind of silence that only exists far from cities.
Return to the lodge in time for a homemade Chilean dinner. Tonight’s meal features seasonal ingredients from local farms—perhaps a roasted lamb stew, warm sopaipillas, and house made pebre with fresh herbs from the garden. Dinner is shared in a communal dining space that feels like an extension of the forest itself—wooden walls, candlelight, and the sounds of nature outside.

Day 7
Puelo: Deep Trails, Still Waters & Timeless Encounters

Our day begins at first light, with the soft sounds of the forest gently stirring you awake. A warm and hearty breakfast awaits—freshly baked bread, scrambled farm eggs, homemade berry jam, and rich Patagonian coffee. From the dining room, views stretch out over misty hills and the turquoise river below, setting the tone for a day of immersion in nature’s quiet grandeur.
Today offers two paths into the rugged heart of northern Patagonia. For those eager to challenge themselves, a full-day journey into the Tagua Tagua Park awaits. This privately protected reserve, accessible only by boat, is a pristine world of moss-covered trails, crystal-clear lagoons, and towering alerce trees. The trail to Laguna Quetrus, considered demanding and long, winds deep into the forest and climbs steadily into alpine terrain. You’ll pause midday in a quiet glade for a trail lunch of smoked salmon sandwiches, trail mix with native nuts and dried fruit, and a square of homemade chocolate—fuel for the final push to the top, where views of untouched wilderness stretch for miles.
Alternatively, the day can unfold at a gentler pace on a horseback ride into the Cochamó Valley, known as the “Yosemite of Chile” for its soaring granite cliffs and emerald valleys. This half-day ride, led by local baqueanos, follows forest paths and river crossings into the shadow of the immense stone walls. The rhythm of the horses and the scent of wild herbs in the breeze make it an unforgettable, grounded way to explore. A mid-ride snack is enjoyed by the riverside, with the granite domes towering above.
In the afternoon, those returning from the horseback ride may choose to glide across the Puelo River by kayak, moving at nature’s pace through still waters reflecting the mountains. Or take a boat ride from the lodge, drifting along hidden inlets with a guide who shares stories of the valley’s people, history, and changing landscape.
Back at the Lodge, with muscles tired and spirits full, you’ll settle into the evening after a warm shower, wrapped in a cozy fleece, comforting dinner and the quiet sounds of the river below. A day in Puelo is never hurried—but it always leaves you with a deep sense of place.

Day 8
Puelo: Hiking & Fly Fishing in Wild Patagonia

Wake to birdsong and the smell of fresh-baked bread. After a traditional breakfast featuring farm eggs, local cheese, and fruit preserves, prepare for a moderate-level forest hike. Led by a local guide, the trail winds through native lenga and coihue trees, across wooden bridges, and up gentle ridgelines that reward you with breathtaking views of the Puelo River and surrounding peaks. Along the way, learn about native flora, forest conservation, and the age-old relationship between this land and its people.
In the afternoon, swap hiking boots for waders and experience the serenity of fly fishing in Puelo’s crystal-clear rivers. With guidance from a local angler, cast your line into deep pools where rainbow and brown trout glide beneath the surface. Even for beginners, the peaceful rhythm of fly fishing in this pristine setting offers a chance to be present—and possibly bring back your own catch.
As the sun dips behind the mountains, return to the lodge for a culinary farewell celebration. Tonight’s meal is a tribute to traditional Chilean cooking: perhaps freshly grilled fish caught earlier that day, accompanied by native potatoes, seasonal vegetables roasted over the fire, and a dessert of maqui berry tart or lucuma mousse. Paired with a glass of Carménère or craft beer, the dinner is both a sensory delight and a heartfelt goodbye.
